The Lollipop Song

In my earlier blog post in which I chatted with pro-shooter Grace Callahan (if you haven’t read it, you can find it HERE), Grace mentioned a technique in which she would pick a song for each day’s competition and sing it to herself throughout the day’s shoot in order to prevent negative thoughts from intruding into her her conscious mind.

This came up again, when I had lunch with pro-shooter Brian DeMott.  If you haven’t seen that post – please check it out HERE.  Brian confirmed that pretty much all of the top shooters use this technique.  In fact, he related a pretty funny anecdote in which another top shooter approached him during a match who had quite obviously chosen “The Lollipop Song” as his song du jour!  If you bump into Brian, feel free to ask him about it!

So… if this technique has been adopted by the top shooters, there is no reason it can’t work for the rest of us recreational shooters as well.  Afterall, anything we can do to derail negative thoughts can only be a good thing.  Feel free to give it a try.

And at the risk of giving everyone an ear worm, here is a classic rendition of “The Lollipop Song”.  Feel free to use it at your next event!
