It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is the first day of May and 2021 is one third of the way behind us! Now would be a great time to pull out those goals you wrote back in January and see how you are doing! Ideally, you have been doing that periodically (say every month or so), but no one is judging here. If they have some dust on then, blow it off and take a look at them. I did the same earlier this month and realized I needed to adjust one of my outcome goals as I had already achieved it. Time to push that goal further down the field!

What’s that I hear? You still haven’t written down any goals for your recreational activities?

Consider that goal setting is the starting point for Sport Psychologists when working with professional athletes – Why? Simply because it has been proven to be an effective and easy to implement tool. And, for us recreational athletes, it is just as easy to use and can help us to provide a framework for improvement. Busting clays is fun, but busting more of them is even more fun! You may already be familiar with goal setting through work or other activities. If not, and you want some guidance to get started, please take a look at one of the very few posts that was published here on the blog (link below). It is a primer on goal setting covering such topics as:
What are goals?
Why set goals?
Types of goals (Process, performance and outcome)
Characteristics of effective goals
S,M.A.R.T. goals
Goal Mapping
