Awhile back, I had made a post reviewing Phil’s new eye training video. I am still using the video at least once per week. I thought it would be interesting to see how some of my shooting friends who also are using the video are doing with it now that we have all had a chance to use if for a period of time.
Here is the link to the original post in case you want to go back and check it out:
And here is a picture of yours truly during a practice session!
I sent emails out to those that I knew had obtained a copy of the video asking a few questions. Here are the questions as well as the raw responses back:
- On a scale of 1-5 (5 being highest), how do you rate the video overall
- 4 (can’t stand the music)
- 3-4
- 5
- How beneficial have you found the video?
- I think it has been very helpful in strengthening my eyes. When I first started watching the DVD, it really strained my eyes.
- It has been most beneficial for me in finding the second bird on true pair targets
- Very.
- Do you think it has helped you to lock on targets more quickly?
- To some extent
- Yes, but I think it has helped me see the targets more intensely and clearer rather than more quickly. I believe I am quicker at finding the second bird of a true pair.
- Yes.
- Do you think it has helped you to lock on targets better at the break point?
- I think it has been very helpful in enabling me to lock onto targets more quickly and track them better
- I do see the targets better at the break area and lock on them better. I also practice every two days or so seeing the bird across the gun using the three bullet drill.
- Yes.
- How many times / week are you using the video
- On average, I watch it 2-3 times a week and always try to watch it the day before and day of a registered shoot.
- 1-2 times a week, sometimes 3
- 3-4 times
So, it would seem that for these recreational athletes, the eye training video has value as well as some staying power! While we didn’t attempt any real scientific studies to evaluate the effectiveness of the program, it does seem to have some benefit for those who are willing to spend the 15 minutes or so a session takes to complete.
