It’s that time of the year again! The final week of the year. Time to reflect on what went well, and what needs improvement headed into the new year. How many of us have come up with a new year’s resolution that is forgotten just as soon as the confetti is cleaned up from the big ball drop? How about instead of coming up with new year’s resolutions, that we consider developing a set of goals for our recreational sport activities for the coming year?
One of the first posts I published was a “how-to” guide on how to establish goals. There was a reason I posted this early in the life of the blog. Goal setting is one of the most commonly implemented mental skills techniques at the professional level. Goal setting has also been found to be highly effective. This tool is equally accessible to the recreational athlete as well. I would encourage you to revisit that early post. Here is the link:
For those looking for some more help with establishing goals, I also published a sample of goals I had set for myself. Please take a look at that post here:
The important thing is to take the time to not only think about what you want to accomplish, but to actually write your goals down. You have probably heard the phrase “think it, then ink it”.
I actually like to write my goals down using pen and paper first. It might be “old school”, but when I go through the actions of writing something down, it is like etching it permanently in my brain! Then, I create a word file with the final version so that I can easily update my goals as conditions change. I keep this file on my computer’s desktop so I can easily refer to it. Just do what works for you!
My best to you in the coming year!
